Feast of Choirs

The pinnacle event of City Sings Gospel, which has developed and brought together choirs and gospel groups across the region, was an inspirational evening of great gospel chorale singing. Who could not be moved by all those ‘jazz hands’ waving in time with “Kwase” and “All God’s Children”? Leaving crowds with goose pimples, the thirty choristers of Stavanger Gospel Choir joined over 600 singers from Liverpool and the UK ’s X-factor contestant Beverley Trotman to sing ‘Oh Happy Day’ at Liverpool ’s monumental Anglican Cathedral.

Alexandra of Emmaus Roman Catholic and Church of England Primary School told BBC Merseyside listeners the day before of her delight in learning and performing the gospel songs. Her school teacher Ms Hall talked of the thrill before the Feast of Choirs event and about how the gospel music has brought out smiles in the children.
The mass choir mainly comprised of school choirs from Merseyside but included adult choirs such as the Kaleidoscope Community Singers and the Bilinge Heart and Soul Choir.
