Furniture Bank

Vision and Motivation

The Furniture Outlet was the first community project set up in an old cinema building which LJM bought in 1998 and set about refurbishing. The initial vision was to convert unwanted household goods to cash towards the refurbishment costs of the centre. It soon became clear that this would do more than that – it became and has remained a major point of contact with the local community. For us, it is like everything else we do, a means to show God’s love in an unconditional way to everyone that needs it.

What do we do?

  • We collect donated unwanted household goods, especially furniture, clean them up and sell them to the public at very reasonable prices.
  •  We signpost people to other projects for training, education and jobs
  • We also educate the community on environmental matters – to reduce dumping, train on how to reduce the water they use, and give away free energy bulbs to those on benefits.

People and businesses from all over Merseyside and beyond donate and purchase from the outlet. We have own delivery service!!!

This project has now been running successfully for almost 8 years.

We plan to organise more seminars on environmental concerns to benefit residents in communities around our Outlets and increase our levels of surplus for international work.
