Bethel House

Supported Accommodation Project (SAP)

In 2007, LJM purchased a dilapidated 12 bedroom house in Kensington area of Liverpool to provide new premises for the project.   In summer of this year (2008), the refurbishment work was completed, costing £250.000.   Most of the funds came from LJM reserves, with substantial in-kind support from a number of organisations including CRASH (building materials), Wilkinson, Ekornes Ltd (furniture), Olympus KeyMed Group Companies (plumbing units), Electrolux plc (white goods).

This property, which is in 3 floors, now offers four quality en-suite bedrooms for four residents on the second floor, and communal areas on the first floor, including comfortable lounge/training area, fully equipped training kitchen to develop life-skills, project office and facilities for sleeping duty staff.   It provides a secure family-like environment for them to experience.   This includes negotiated rules, communal activities such as cooking, commitment to engage in life development activities such as attending college or training.   In addition, the project provides round the clock staffing, group activities and one-to-one support, using referral agencies when needed.

Midway Accommodation Project (MAP)

This is a new project now based in the ground floor of the newly refurbished Bethel House.   This facility consists of 4 quality flat lets (studio flats), developed as mid-independent accommodation for young people including unaccompanied young asylum seekers, aged 16-18 years old.   The facility has the important added benefit of constant oversight for security and access to support on site as needed.

With our experience and expertise, we are able to provide excellent customised services to develop and equip our residents.   The project will cater for young people with a wide range of needs and provide as needed:

  • Flat occupancy experience, with challenges of managing finance, time, food etc.
  • Life-skill development, needed to manage when they eventually move on.
  • Cultural support and adaptation for foreign young people.
  • Language translation & interpretation.
  • Social integration, especially for young asylum seekers and refugees.
  • Signpost to vocational training and jobs through our Harmonize Plus project.
  • Successful move on from us at the end of their tenancy to fully independent living as Housing Association tenant.
